Nail trends appear to be a constant evolution of aesthetics and trends. Every time I open Pinterest, I see a new color or shape that I should be wearing. Certainly, I enjoy wearing only the classic looks—from a smooth red half-moon manicure to an elegant nude or pink nail.
However, one feature remains timeless: the ability to develop healthy, long nails. Sadly, it can also be challenging. You see, I was an avid nail-biter from childhood till I learnt to stop in my 30s. So, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve attempted to grow my nails, only to be met with brittle, breakable, sad nothings.
However, I was able to master my nail care routine, which resulted in some of the best growth I’ve ever witnessed.
File every week.
Weekly gentle nail filing prevents breakage. I consistently maintain the same length and shape in my nails by filing them once a week, give or take.
When it comes to filing nails, technique is the most crucial factor. Above all, don’t “saw” your nails. Most people file by simply moving the file across the tips in a straight line back and forth. Peeling may become more likely because of this.
To file nails that are weak or peeling, tilt the file so that you file from underneath the nail rather than holding it flush to the nail. This will help if your nails are thinner. The file should be straight against the side wall and perpendicular to the nail tip while shaping nails; it should not be tilted. Sort of file in a single direction.
Fix snags as soon as they arise.
Big breaks can result from even the smallest of hiccups. When you must cut off more nails than you would have initially planned, it’s better to take care of them as soon as they occur to avoid regretting it later.
If you work with your hands or something like that frequently, you might want to go with a lower-maintenance form. It may be circular or square in shape. Maintaining a simple shape can assist reduce the likelihood of issues from the start, saving you from having to fix them all the time.
Every day, moisturize the cuticles.
Approximately once a day, I use warm dry oil to condition my cuticles and nails. This accomplishes two goals. It does this by first covering the nail and cuticle with a moisturizing and protective buffer.
Emollients, which function as a barrier to trap moisture around the cuticle area, are a component of cuticle oils. It is comparable to applying facial oils to the skin to form a barrier of protection.
It enhances fingertips circulation as well. Healthy nail development can be encouraged by stimulating blood flow to the epidermis with a cuticle oil massage.
Dry oils are my favorite since they are lightweight and soak quickly. They don’t leave the body with a significant, long-lasting residue like heavier oils do, thus the skin feels dry after application. Although there isn’t a formal classification system for dry oils, safflower, sunflower, rosehip, and sesame seeds are frequent constituents to search for.
