There are several options available to you when it comes to foods that improve brain function. Naturally, this is a positive thing, but is there a hierarchy of sorts for the best of the best? Which brain-supporting snack would experts put on their plate if they had to make a choice?
Here’s a hint: they resemble the brain and are incredibly tasty.
The answer: Walnuts, of course! They are the best!
Why Walnuts are Good for the Brain
One nut that has been thoroughly researched for brain health is walnuts. Specifically, since they are full of healthful omega-3 fats. They’re a fantastic source of polyunsaturated fats, which are vital for maintaining the integrity of the many branches of tiny arteries that carry blood and nutrients to various areas of our brain.
Let’s explore this research: Studies indicate that diets high in omega-3 fatty acids can support a good emotional balance and upbeat mood, and that polyunsaturated fats, particularly omega-3s, might reduce stress (1). Lastly, research indicates that people with migraines may experience fewer and milder headaches while following a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids (2).
Regular walnut consumption has been linked to improved brain health and a lower risk of dementia, according to certain research (3). Not to be overlooked, walnuts are a gift of nutrients and minerals that are good for the brain, including fiber, selenium, magnesium, and potassium.
Eat More Walnuts
The fact that walnuts are so simple to include in a wide range of recipes is one of the things that makes them so remarkable for brain function. It can be added to salads, used to make sweets, or eaten as a snack. The powerful walnut is an edible, low-hanging seed with several advantages.
